Peasholm Park

Peasholm Park

Peasholm Park

Located just behind Scarborough’s North Bay is Peasholm Park. Designed in an Oriental style in 1912, when at that time the park was Scarborough’s venue of choice for extravagant galas and exhibitions. Sadly its glory faded as the century wore on, with the park closing in 1999 after its pagoda was damaged by arson. The pagoda was rebtuilt and the park reopened in the 2000s and is now a treasured part of the resort.

One of many old-time delights is the Battle of Peasholm, a naval re-enactment that has taken place three times a week each summer on the ornamental lake for nearly 90 years. Certainly worth viewing for every one who visits Scarborough in the season.

If you want to take to the water, there is a choice of boats to hire including traditional rowing boats and canoes or for the more extravagant, why not go for one of the very popular pedaloes with dragon heads. If you don’t fancy pedaling then go for a sail in the Swan launch where you can relax on the water and let someone else steer the boat.

There are also brass band concerts and lantern displays in the park, as well as a putting green, artificial waterfalls, a Japanese Garden, and the Peasholm Glen Tree Trail with exotic tree species.
