Mobility Scooter Information

Mobility Scooter with Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are becoming increasingly popular because they are smaller and lighter than the older lead-acid batteries. Despite this, they can retain more energy and can power a mobility scooter for longer. However, this type of battery introduces an increased risk of fire and explosion, particularly if the battery is damaged, improperly used, charged or stored, therefore any scooters with a lithium-ion battery will not be permitted in any hotel.

Mobility scooters must not be transported or stored on coaches.

Similarly we are unable to store or charge hired mobility scooters in the hotel. If you are hiring a scooter for your holiday please arrange with the mobility scooter hirer to have the scooters delivered to the hotel and removed daily.

Mobility Scooter with any other battery type

Where it is necessary to store and charge mobility scooters with other battery types at our hotels, including guests’ personal scooters please check with the hotel before arrival that there is a suitable location for the mobility scooter. This will be an external area (as long as the mobility scooter can be protected from the weather).

Check the mobility scooter battery or battery compartment for obvious signs of damage before charging. Ensure the correct charging lead is used to charge the mobility scooter (this can be checked with the hire company). Scooters must not be charged overnight, we only have one member of staff on site at this time and it creates a much increased risk.

Stop charging the mobility scooter when it is fully charged. This is usually either indicated by a charging indictor on the charger or by switching the mobility scooter on and checking the gauge on the control panel (steering column).
